'Ragged Souls,' the 2012 follow-up to American-born singer-songwriter Heather Bristow's well-received 2009 debut, 'Hope on the Vine', was formally launched at The New Brewery Arts, Cirencester, on Sat. 17th Nov. 2012. Check out the 'Listen' page on the website here for the lovely interview Frank Manigrasso did with Heather at the Brewery following a rehearsal just before the gig which went out on Radio Winchcombe, 107.1 Fm/MixCloud on his Roots, Grass & Jambalaya programme on 2nd Dec. 2012.
Released on Heather's own label, Heifer Records, the new 12-track acoustic CD is a collection of original songs with a distinctly bluegrass flavour and touches of gospel, folk and country. Produced by Ben Winship (Brother Mule, Growling Old Men, Fishing Music) in the US (who also produced 'Hope on the Vine'), 'Ragged Souls' features an all-star cast of musicians from both sides of the Atlantic, including British banjo player Leon Hunt and American singer Mollie O'Brien. With liner notes by American flatpick guitarist, singer and songwriter John Lowell (Growling Old Men, Kane's River), who plays on several tracks, and British singer/guitarist Paul Brewer of The New Essex Bluegrass Band, with whom Heather has performed.
Heather's set for the Nov. 17th gig with launch band Heather Bristow & The Ragged Souls focussed on the new CD's more bluegrassy material and featured some of the British bluegrass scene's young leading lights in a one-off line-up: Laura and Charlotte Carrivick (The Carrivick Sisters, The Great Western Revellers) and John Breese (The Coal Porters, Great Western Revellers), as well as bass stalwart Dick Embery (Cat's Cradle, Monroe's Revenge) and Heather's long-time duo-partner and collaborator, Colin Sillence, plus Richard Lloyd (Wilderspin) on keyboards. The evening's concert also included support from friends Vaisey & Harvey (Eos), James Slater (Appalachia) and Colin Sillence & Nicola Clark--whose beautiful original artwork appears on the Ragged Souls cover.
"It was a great priviledge to perform a set of my own songs with a band of this calibre to such a warm and receptive audience," said Heather.
'Ragged Souls' now available on amazon.co.uk, itunes, the Birnam CD Shop at www.birnamcdshop.com and here in the Shop.
